Phyllida (2019, 24’)
Third Channel / Peacock Pictures / Hauser and Wirth
Dir. Cosima Spender
Prod: Dorothea Gibbs
This lovely film follows the artist Phyllida Barlow at work in her studio and leads up to her solo exhibition at the Royal Academy — “the most inspiring show of the year.” The artist discusses her work process, ideas and life and we witness pieces from start to finish.
The film will be screened every Friday evening at the Royal Academy for the duration of Barlow’s show, from February 23 to June 23 2019.
It was a joy to work with the director Cosima Spender again, who I worked with on three previous documentaries. I used a mixture of live strings, prepared piano, other found sounds and electronics for the score.
Piano recorded at Sonica Studios, London.
Musicians Richard Curran and Jack Westwell and music mixer Rich Aitken.
