Selected for Jam on the Marsh Voces8 scheme

I was delighted to be selected to take part in the Jam on the Marsh composing scheme, writing for the world-renowned Voces8 ensemble, with guidance from Paul Mealor. My first draft sketch was workshopped alongside those of 5 other composers in the beautiful church of St Leonard, Hythe, (whose crypt incidentally houses the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient human skulls and bones in Britain) and we were treated to a wonderful concert by Voces8 that evening as part of JAM festival.

I am using text from Lemm Sissay’s poem “Gold from the Stone”, a poem about the yearning for home and sense of belonging. I am now developing the piece and the completed 6 compositions will be performed by Voces8 in a concert at St Bride’s Fleet Street in October.
